Wildcat fall in quarters
The tennis season ended for the Presque Isle Wildcats Thursday as both the girls and the boys were eliminated in the quarterfinal round of the Eastern Maine Class B tournament.

The Wildcat girls fell at Caribou, 4-1. The lone match win recorded by coach Monica Bearden’s team came courtesy of No. 3 singles player Hilary Boucher, who stopped the Vikes’ Clara Collins in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.
Kayla Girardin and Sara Gilson lost their singles matches for PI, as did the doubles teams of Blair Bailey-Michelle Cawley and Lora Ireland-Frances Castro.
The fifth-ranked Wildcats closed out the year with an 8-5 record. Caribou went on to lose to top seed Ellsworth, 3-2, in Saturday’s semifinal round.
The Presque Isle boys had a much longer trip that same day as the headed to Bar Harbor to take on the No. 1-seeded Mount Desert Island Trojans. The Wildcats were beaten by a 5-0 score. Liam Hughes, Chase Norton and Chris Carroll were defeated in singles matches, while Zach Breton-Byron Winslow and Clint Adler-Tyler Ayotte fell in doubles play.
Last Tuesday, PI advanced by beating Old Town in a preliminary playoff match held in Presque Isle.
The Wildcats, the No. 8 seed in the division, finished with a record of 8-6. MDI won its semifinal Saturday and will take on No. 2 Caribou in this afternoon’s EM championship match.
