Wildcat boys win middle school title
CARIBOU — Middle school track and field titles were decided last Wednesday, May 29, during the Aroostook League championships, held at Caribou High School.
In the team results, the Caribou girls and Presque Isle boys earned overall victories.
The host Vikings scored 145 points to take the girls’ win. Presque Isle was next with 89 and Union 122, representing New Sweden, Stockholm and Woodland, was third with 59. Washburn, Valley Rivers of Fort Kent and Fort Fairfield followed.
Tori Koch had a big day individually. The Washburn eighth-grader won all four events she participated in to score 40 points. She was victorious in the 100-meter dash in 13.05 seconds, the 100 hurdles in 17.38 seconds, the long jump with a mark of 13 feet, 9-1/2 inches and the high jump at 4 feet, 4 inches.
Other winners were: Elizabeth Findlen of Presque Isle in the 200 in 30.59 seconds, Emma Willett of Presque Isle in the 400 in 1:19.13; Madeline Gudde of Caribou in the 800 in 2:50.36; Hope Shea of Caribou in the 1,600 in 6:23.62, Zoe Gerakaris of Caribou in the shot put at 28 feet, 5-1/2 inches; Erin Kashian of Caribou in the discus at 63-3; the Presque Isle 4×100-meter relay team (Eleanor St. Peter, Breanna Byrd, Kate Goulet and Madison Michaud) in 59.93 seconds; and the Presque Isle 4×200-meter relay team (St. Peter, Goulet, Kenyaly Quevedo and Willett) in 2:12.98.
Findlen, Shea and Caribou’s Adessa Judd also placed among the top three in all four of their events.
Jacob O’Berry of Presque Isle took first in three events and was third in his other to lead the Wildcat boys to the victory.
PI scored 105 points to finish ahead of Caribou, which had 74, and three other teams.
O’Berry captured the 100 title in 12.58 seconds and also took the discus with a mark of 93-4. He was part of the winning 4×100 relay team, joining Wyatt Kennedy, Caleb Page and Dustin Alward to record a time of 54.66. O’Berry was third in the shot put as well at 32-5.
Dominick Judd of Caribou also won three events. He was first in the 400 in 1:01.63, the high jump at 4-8 and the long jump at 17-6.5.

ONE-TWO PUNCH — The Mortland twins, Randon and Ryle, competing in the 1,600, were among the top scorers for the PIMS boys at last Wednesday’s Aroostook League championship meet.
Other individual champions were: Kaeman LeJeane of Fort Fairfield in the 200 in 28.31, Randon Mortland of Presque Isle in both the 800 (2:30.31) and the 1,600 (5:31.24), Caleb Libby of Caribou in the 100 hurdles in 18.29, Trever Theriault of Valley Rivers in the shot put at 33-6 and the Union 122 4×200 relay team of Jacob Weymouth, Austin Findlen, Nic Alfaro and Carson Doody with a time of 2:01.56.
Ryle Mortland placed second in the 400, 800 and 1,600 and fifth in the 200 for the Wildcats.
