Tag Day for LL Saturday

    CARIBOU — Caribou Little League is in full swing now, with eight games played last week and 11 games scheduled this week. Coming up this Saturday, June 8, is the annual Tag Day, when Caribou Little League players spread out at locations throughout Caribou collecting donations for the league. The league counts on contributions to help fund the league, and any donation is appreciated. This Saturday morning also features five games. 

Summaries of games played last week are as follows:

Sleepers 5, Northstars 4

    In an exciting match played on Memorial Day, Cam Huck went 3 for 3 and pitched 4-1/3 innings to lead Sleepers to a hard fought 5-4 win over the Northstars. Hayden Hunter went 2 for 3 with a key two-run double in the fourth to provide Sleepers with a 5-2 lead. The Northstars pulled to 5-4 with two runs in the fifth inning, and loaded the bases in the sixth inning with two outs before Brandon Manter of Sleepers got the final out.  For Sleepers, first-year player Logan Cheplic walked and scored a run while Manter added a base hit. Jake Ouellette played well defensively at catcher and scored two runs. The Northstars were led by Josh Quist’s two base hits, while Noah Hixon and Austin Findlen both singled. Quist and Hixon shared the mound duties for the Northstars.

S.W. Collins 7, Eagles 4

    S.W. Collins battled the Eagles in Woodland, narrowly pulling off a 7-4 win. For Collins, Dagan Savage led off on the mound, followed by Tyler Wright, with Sydney Thompson closing. At the plate, Wright ripped two hits down the right field line and Zack Gerakaris added a pair of hits, including an inside-the-park home run. For the Eagles, Caleb Trombley hit a home run deep over the center field fence, while Wyatt Taggett and Ghent Durepo added base hits.

Kof C 6, Tigers 5

    Marcus Carter of Knights of Columbus walked and scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth to help K of C pull out an exciting 6-5 win over the Woodland Tigers. Pacing K of C, Colby Bonville picked up the victory pitching and added a double and scored two runs. Gabe Rand added two singles and Aidan Plante added a double to help the team. The Tigers got strong pitching performances from Cameron Doody and Carter Moir. PJ Thornton was able to reach base twice and scored a run for the visiting Tigers.

Northstars 17, Police 1

    The Northstars combined for 16 hits to out run the Police in a rain-soaked game. Alex Bouchard led the Northstars with two singles and an inside-the-park home run. Josh Quist knocked out a triple and two singles while Noah Hixon doubled and singled twice. Riley Bouchard and Austin Findlen each doubled while Walker Clark hit for two singles. Kennith Thompson, Emily Adler and Aiden Brown each added a single for the Northstars. On the mound, pitchers Hixon and Alex Bouchard combined for 10 strikeouts. For the Police, Alya Theriault turned a walk and smart base running into her team’s only run while recording the first run of her career. Pitchers Andrew Evans and Cameron Ouellette did a fine job striking out nine Northstar batters while Devin Saggese battled the mud behind the plate.

Sleepers 2, Shop & Save 1

    In a pitcher’s duel matching the only two remaining undefeated teams, Sleepers pulled out a thrilling 2-1 victory over Shop & Save. Sleepers got on the board in the first inning when Devin White singled home Jake Ouellette, who had walked. Sleepers scored their second run in the third when Brandon Manter tripled home Ouellette. Manter pitched the first 4-1/3 innings for Sleepers, allowing no hits and earning the victory. Jay Belanger came on in relief with one out in the fifth with runners on first and third, and induced a double play grounder. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Carter Conley singled for Shop & Save and came around to score on an infield single by Keegan Dickinson. Shop & Save proceeded to load the bases with one out before Belanger struck out the final two batters, earning the save. On the mound for Shop & Save, Tristan Mancos pitched five innings of two-hit ball, and Parker Deprey finished the game. 

Northstars 9, Bank of Maine 0

    Alex Bouchard pitched a complete game no-hitter while striking out 15 batters to lead the Northstars to a 9-0 victory over Bank of Maine. Emily Adler had a great stretch at first base on a close play to preserve the no-hitter. Austin Findlen led his team at the plate by swinging for a triple and two singles. Bouchard helped his cause by slamming out three singles. Walker Clark, Kennith Thompson and Aidan Brown each had two singles while Emily Adler singled for the Northstars. Brennan Poitras and Seth Roy combined for eight strikeouts for Bank of Maine, while Benoit Levesque did a fine job behind the plate.
    There were no reports for Key Bank’s 23-17 win over VFW and the Tigers’ 9-8 win over Knights of Columbus.
