Southside students enjoy field trip

HOULTON — On May 23, 5th graders from Houlton Southside School went on their yearly field trip sponsored by Houlton Water Company. Prior to the field trip all students received a packet of informational material provided by HWC.

On trip day students were able to visit the pumping station, electric substation, office, and wastewater treatment plant. While under the supervision of HWC employees, students were able to operate a backhoe, use a fire hose, sit in a bucket truck, suit up as a lineman, and learn how to climb a pole. They also provided lunch to all students.
The day was cut short due to inclement weather, so not every child was able to attend all four stations, however they each went to two.
