Mars Hill school announces honor parts

    Officials at Central Aroostook Junior-Senior High School of Mars Hill have announced the honor parts for the Class of 2013. The valedictorian is Kayla Cushman and the salutatorian is Breanne York. The first honor essayist is Sarah Grass and the second honor essayist is Michaela King. 

Valedictorian

    Kayla Marie Cushman is the daughter of Nolan and Karen Cushman of Mars Hill.  Kayla has participated in varsity basketball, varsity cross country, varsity soccer, volleyball, varsity softball the FFA, Project Graduation planning and prom planning. She is also involved in Student Council and has served this year as the senior class president. She was inducted into the National Honor Society last year as a junior and this year is serving as the NHS president. 
    Kayla has also been this year’s yearbook editor. She has earned many awards and honors over her four years at Central Aroostook including Student of the Month, the writing award, the French award, the Excellence in U.S. History award and the Maine Principals Award. She was also recently recognized for being on highest honors every quarter of high school. Kayla will be studying at Ohio State University in the fall majoring in biology, pre-med.

Salutatorian

    Breanne York is the daughter of Brent and Kay York of Mars Hill. Brea has participated in the varsity soccer and basketball teams as well as the trust team and yearbook. She and was inducted into the National Honor Society last year as a junior. Brea has earned awards for Student of the Month, Student of the Year, the Halo Award and multiple class awards. She was also recognized as a six-year honoree earning highest honors for 23 consecutive quarters.
    Brea has done many community services projects while in high school including working as a blood drive volunteer, a wilderness day camp counselor and a junior high basketball volunteer. Brea will study allied heath at Cedarville University in the fall.

First Honor Essayist

    Sarah Grass is the daughter of Kevin and Donna Grass of Blaine. Sarah has participated in FFA, International Club, Trust Team, Student Council, yearbook and the after-school mentoring program. She was inducted into the National Honor Society as a junior and has served as the treasurer. Sarah has been a strong athlete, participating in soccer, basketball and softball. 
    Sarah has earned multiple awards in high school including Student of the Month, French award and the new media award. She was also recognized as a six-year honoree earning honor roll for 23 consecutive quarters. She has participated in service to her community by working of the school’s mentoring program, working with her church youth group, and helping with school events such as the Christmas gift drive. Sarah will attend the University of Maine in the fall to study speech pathology.

Second Honor Essayist

    Michaela King is the daughter of Leroy and Sally King of Mars Hill. Michaela has participated in Math Team, French Club, FFA and was inducted into the National Honor Society as a junior.  She is also a dedicated athlete  playing varsity basketball, softball, and soccer for four years.
    Michaela has been recognized recently as a six-year honoree, which means she has achieved the honor roll at Central Aroostook for 23 consecutive quarters. She has also earned awards in math and was voted Student of the Month by the staff. Michaela has volunteered at the Bridgewater Recreation Department throughout high school. Michaela plans to attend the University of Maine next fall to study pre-veterinary science.
    The Class of 2013 will graduate on Friday, June 7, with exercise being held in the Central Aroostook Jr.-Sr. High School gymnasium at 7:30 p.m.
