Hooked on Fishing Not Drugs set for June 1 at Mantle Lake

    The annual Hooked On Fishing Not Drugs fishing derby will be held free of charge for youth under age 16 at Mantle Lake Park in Presque Isle Saturday, June 1. Registration is from 8-10 a.m.

    Prizes will be awarded to the first 250 to register. First prize is a lifetime fishing license, donated by the Presque Isle Fish and Game Club.
    Free hot dogs, potato chips, soda and ice cream will be available on site. The fishing derby is sponsored by the Presque Isle Elks.

Volleyball camp offered at university

    The University of Maine at Presque Isle volleyball program will hold a summer skills camp the week of July 22-26. The camp is open for girls entering sixth through 12th grades and take place in Wieden Hall on the UMPI campus.
    Owl head volleyball coach Mark Kornachuk will direct the camp. Kornachuk is a graduate of the University of Tennessee and has 25 years of volleyball experience. The UMPI volleyball team would like to bring its volleyball training to the community for those wanting to play hard, enjoy the game and excel in a sport that is growing in Maine.
    The clinic will be held daily from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and the cost is $50, which includes a camp T-shirt. Team discounts are available.
