TURNER, Larry Allen, 69, WASHBURN, May 25, 2013. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Wed., at Dunntown Advent Church, Wade. Arrangements are in the care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, Presque Isle.
WASHBURN – Larry Allen Turner, 69, passed away Saturday morning, May 25, 2013, at his home in Washburn. He was born on April 25, 1944, in Caribou, the son of Guy and Catherine (Churchill) Turner. Larry graduated from Washburn District High School, class of 1962, and attended the University of Maine.
He farmed with his father and later on with his son, Aaron. Larry was very active, he coached Little League in Washburn, served as a deacon at State Street Baptist Church, was a Sunday school and Boys’ Brigade teacher, and a Word of Life basketball coach. He enjoyed collecting baseball cards, watching the Giants, Celtics and the Red Sox; watching old westerns on TV, and thoroughly enjoyed watching the grandchildren’s activities. He was a big Washburn Beavers fan and attended as many games as he was able.
He is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart, Brenda (Brown) Turner of Washburn, whom he married on June 15, 1963; his children, Wendy Rose and her husband, David of Centerville, MA, Sheila Clark and her husband, Doug of Ellsworth, Aaron Turner and his wife, Laura of Washburn; a sister, Joyce Doody and her husband, Wendell of Washburn; grandchildren, Alexander David Rose of Centerville, MA, Michael Ray and Brian Allen Clark of Ellsworth, Mason Allen and McCall Brown Turner of Washburn; his mother-in-law, Kathleen Brown of Washburn; several sisters- and brothers- in-law; and other family, Cheryl and Winston Shankel of Hampden, Vicki and Deryle Sponberg of Washburn, Joanne and David Lavway of Glenburn, Eugene “Sam” and Londa Brown of Washburn, Margaret Turner, aunt Christina (Churchill) Lavway, uncle Bert Turner, aunt Una Churchill, aunt Eunice (Churchill) Bothwick, many cousins, nieces and nephews who adored their uncle Larry, his lifelong best friend, Duane Sands of Caribou, who he met in kindergarten.
He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, LeRoy; father-in-law, Eugene Brown Sr.; grandparents, Scott and Mary (Libby) Turner and Harry and Pearl (Hanson) Churchill; nephews, Luke Sponberg and Edward Doody; and cousin, Dale Turner.
Friends called 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Wed., at Dunntown Advent Church, Wade, with Rev. George McLaughlin officiating. Interment will be at Crouseville, Cemetery.
