Easton students take part in FFA convention

On Wednesday, May 8, 10 members of the Easton FFA team, along with their advisor and chaperone Kim Hammond, departed from Easton for Bangor to take part in the FFA state convention. Members attending were: Harvey Brown V, Carl Mullen, Logan Sutherland, Kennedy Young, Stephanie Hammond, Cody Embelton, Caitlyn Monroe, Jason Gurley, Jeff Thibodeau and Jordan Doody.

Members competed in ag mechanics, environment and natural resources, farm business management and prepared public speaking. Stephanie Hammond was the candidate for state office and Carl Mullen served on the nominating committee.
The ag mechanics team, consisting of Stephanie Hammond, Jeff Thibodeau, Jason Gurley and Logan Sutherland, placed second overall, with Jeff Thibodeau placing first in the welding portion of the competition. The team won a portable MIG welder and $5,000 scholarships to the University of Northern Ohio.
The environment and natural resources team placed first in their competition. Team members were: Kennedy Young, Caitlyn Monroe, Carl Mullen and Harvey Brown V.
Cody Embelton, Jordan Doody and Jason Gurley represented Easton in the farm business management event. The team won the event.
Stephanie Hammond placed second in prepared public speaking. Stephanie was elected Maine FFA secretary/treasurer for the coming year.
Cody Embelton and Riley Mazerolle have won scholarships to the Washington Leadership Conference to be held June 25-29.
Chapter Advisor Kevin Marquis was chosen Chapter Advisor of the Year.
Student of the Month
Kassidi Hanson is the fifth grade daughter of Darren and Toni Hanson. Kassidi is a hardworking and conscientious young lady who always gives her best effort and has a kind smile. She has recently been nominated to join the BEARS Club at Easton Elementary School and serves as an excellent role model for her peers.
Science Center open house
The Francis Malcolm Science Center open house unfolded in good order on May 18 with about 50-100 guests. Two mini planetarium shows with digital technology and video production were viewed. Four model rockets were successfully launched. Many enjoyed the marine touch tank along with a host of other hands-on activities. Lots of snacks, sandwiches and more were shared.
