Softball teams working toward postseason

    The high school softball season is winding down, as the preliminaries will be played on Tuesday, June 4, followed by the quarterfinals on Thursday, June 6 and semifinals, Saturday, June 8. The games will be hosted by the higher-seeded team.
    The Eastern Maine regionals will be played on June 11-12 and the state games on Saturday, June 15.

    As of the latest Heal Point standings, Class D, Katahdin is in fourth, followed by East Grand in seventh and Southern Aroostook less than a point in 12th.

    The top 12 teams advance in tournament play. The top-seeded team is Limestone/MSSM, followed by PVHS, CAHS, Katahdin, Fort Fairfield, Ashland, East Grand, Deer Isle-Stonington, Washburn, Machias and Woodland.
    The Houlton Lady Shires are in 14th in Class C with a 0-7 record.
    The remaining schedule for softball is as follows:
    Today, East Grand at Hodgdon, 4 p.m.; Houlton at Caribou, 4 p.m. and Southern Aroostook at Madawaska, 4 p.m.
    Thursday, Katahdin at East Grand, 3:30 p.m.
    Friday, Houlton at Hodgdon, 4 p.m. and Southern Aroostook at Woodland, 4 p.m.
    Saturday, Houlton hosts Fort Kent in a doubleheader, 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and Katahdin will be at Bangor Christian, 12 p.m.
    Monday, May 27, Houlton host Stearns, 4 p.m.
    Tuesday, May 28, Washburn at East Grand, 4 p.m.; Hodgdon at Southern Aroostook, 4 p.m. and Katahdin at Penobscot Valley, 4 p.m.
    Wednesday, May 29, Mattanawcook Academy at Houlton, 4 p.m.
    In last week’s action, Hodgdon overpowered Houlton at Community Park, 31-11, last Wednesday, taking advantage of 30 walks.
    Jessi Tracy and Lacey McQuarrie each singled in the game for Hodgdon, while Makayla Tuttle singled, doubled and tripled to lead Houlton. Makayla McGuire had two singles and a double also for Houlton.
    Central Aroostook 29, East Grand 11 — No available information.

    East Grand 4, Limestone 14 — In Limestone on Friday, the Eagles remain undefeated 10-0, as Kelsee Albert belted a solo homer, three  doubles and drove in two runs. Melissa Cantafio struck out 12 and backed her own cause with a pair of doubles and a pair of singles for four RBI.
    For East Grand, Elisha Farley collected two base hits, while Chelsea Winiarski singled to drive in two runs.
    The Eagles led 8-3 after three innings en route to the win.
    SACS 15, East Grand 2 — Last Thursday in Danforth, the Lady Warriors used a 22-hit attack to down host East Grand.
    Katahdin 14, East Grand 2 — Last Tuesday in Stacyville, the Lady Cougars broke the game open with a five-run first inning and a five-run third for a 10-0 lead.
    Makayla Patterson recorded  a double and two singles, while Megan Merry, Morgan Livesey and Brianna Majkowski each singled twice.
    For the Lady Vikings, Allison McEwen, Adriana Philips, Elisha Farley and Baleigh Rowe each singled.
    On Saturday, the Lady Cougars played a doubleheader in Deer Isle-Stonington.
    Deer Isle-Stonington 5, Katahdin 2 — In the second game, Patterson doubled and brought in both of Katahdin’s runs.
    The game was tied at 2-all after the first and then the Mariners scored a run in the third and two more in the fifth, holding Katahdin scoreless for the win.
    Katahdin 4, Deer Isle-Stonington 3 — In the opening game, Katahdin forged a 4-2 lead after the third, as the Mariners’ last run was scored in the bottom of the seventh.
    Lizzie Knowles doubled, singled and drove in a run, while Merry singled twice and Patterson added a single and RBI.
    CAHS 25, SACS 4 — Last Friday in Dyer Brook, Page Fletcher doubled and singled three times for six RBI, while Kayla Cushman doubled and also collected three singles for six RBI and Paige Garrison doubled and singled for the third-seeded Class D Panthers.
    For SACS, Mataya Hartin and Sable Altvater each doubled and singled.
