Hodgdon inducts 11 into NHS

    HODGDON — A group of 11 new members were inducted into Hodgdon High School’s National Honors Society May 8 with a dinner and ceremony.
    “The National Honors Society is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students,” said Alyson McGillicuddy, Hodgdon’s NHS president, in her opening remarks. “NHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in scholarship, leadership, service and character.”

    McGillicuddy stated more than one million students participate in NHS activities across the country each year.
    “Chapter membership is not only recognizing students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service,” she explained.
    Current members of the Hodgdon NHS include McGillicuddy; Valerie Estabrook, vice president; Mariah Wiley, secretary; Nick Lunn, treasurer; Tyler Sherman, Jennah Steamer, Josh Hudson, Alica Rockwell, Mackenzie York, Macy Palmer and Courtney Jurson.
    Newly inducted members include Lacey McQuarrie, Karissa Harris, Meghan Hebert, Kassidy McKissick, Derrick Ellis, Rachel Harmon, Haley Gardiner, Hannah Chapla, Jessi Tracy, Chris Hudson and Hannah Sherman.
    The new members recited the NHS pledge as follows:
    “I pledge myself to uphold the highest purposes of the National Honor Society to which I have been selected; I will be true to the principles for which it stands; I will be loyal to my school; and will maintain and encourage high standards of scholarship, service, leadership and character.”
    At the conclusion of the ceremony, Principal Mary Harbison and Guidance Counselor Bernadette Willette presented the honors awards.
    Freshmen receiving letters were: Samuel Horton, Tianna McEwen, Meg McGuire, Anna Neher, Kerri Spellman, Jasmine St. Peter, Brandon Wallace, Morgan Weigand, Tanner Wilde, Samantha Williams, Blake Woods and Madison York.
    Sophomores earning letters were Ethan Bartlett, Molly Veysey and Austin Daniels. Earning pins were: Alyssa Carmichael, Micayla Fitzpatrick, Rachel Harmon, Chris Hudson, Hannah Sherman, Joseph Silliboy, Tracy and Ashley Wallace.
    Juniors earning letters were: Brian Gilpatrick, Dillon Meserve and Jordan Wilson. Also earning pins were: Chapla, Meghan Hebert, Logan Holck, Ellen McAfee and Macy Palmer. Earning second-year pins were Derrick Ellis, Estabrook, Lauren Howell, Jurson, Samantha Palmer and Tyler Sherman.
    Seniors earning letters were: Desiree Cole, Drew Gough, Harmon, Devin Smith and Brandon Spellman. Also earning pins were Gardiner, Sarah Scott, Mathew Sloat and Christopher Wallace. Earning second-year pins were McQuarrie, McKensie Palmer, Danielle Welton, Wiley and Harris. Earning third-year pins were Josh Hudson, Devon Logie, Lunn, McGillicuddy, McKissick, Rockwell, Danice Welton and MacKenzie York.
