It is both an honor and a privilege when students are accepted into the National Honor Society. This year we inducted 11 new members, Lacey McQuarrie, Haley Gardiner, Karissa Harris, Kassidy McKissick, Derrick Ellis, Christopher Hudson, Meghan Hebert, Hannah Chapla, Rachel Harmon, Jessi Tracy, and Hannah Sherman. These students were accepted on four key qualities: scholarship, leadership, service and character.

Throughout the 2012-13 school year we have accomplished many service projects both for our community and for our school. One of our biggest projects was a blood drive, dedicated in memory of a local fallen soldier, SFC Aaron Henderson. This project allowed us to honor a fallen hero as well as saving the lives of others in need of a blood transfusion. We had an incredible amount of support and donors come to our dedicated blood drive, it was great to see our community and school honor SFC Henderson.

Every year we participate in pie baking for local nursing homes and long-term care patients at Houlton Regional Hospital. During this project we learn to work together as a group to bake close to 40 pies, all in a variety of flavors. As well as giving back to our community we also reach out to our school through teacher appreciation and student leadership appreciation. This year teacher appreciation was the week of May 6.
To thank our excellent staff members for all that they do, we gave them a dessert and fruit spread. In addition to the food they also received a decorative flowerpot, pencils, and pens. We will recognize our student leaders the week of May 13 with an ice cream sundae party. All students who have a leadership position within the school are invited. The leadership positions range from class officers to varsity team captain and all positions in between.

The National Honor Society is more than an academic group but a group that also reaches out to its community. As National Honor Society members we see the true beauty of helping others first hand. It is remarkable to be a part of a group of students who take initiative as leaders in effort to better the lives of our community members.
