PICTURE-PERFECT STRAWBERRIES — Jason Grass, owner of Mystic Photo Studios based in Fort Fairfield, has expanded the business to include promotional photos of everything from products and produce to professionals, to better serve the needs of businesses — both locally and throughout the state. Here, Grass has captured a mouth-watering image of fresh strawberries in this image from his product photography/food line.
“We have been open to the public for almost 11 years now. We have been offering a variety of photography options to The County and now we are offering one more option: commercial photography — meaning we will also be focusing on the businesses in The County and around the state,” said Jason Grass, owner of Mystic Photo Studios in Fort Fairfield.
Grass said he was sad to see the recent closures of local portrait studios, including Walmart’s and JC Penney’s, but those closings didn’t factor into his decision to expand services.
“Because every studio is different, we never base how we operate on how the other studios are doing. It is sad to see any studio have to close its doors, but this was not a factor in the decision to add a commercial client base to our studio,” he said.
The decision to broaden services began earlier this year, when Grass and his wife, Jennifer, took a serious look at what needs he could help meet.
‘In January my wife, Jennifer, and I were discussing making a change to the studio — not necessarily a drastic change but we wanted to be able to offer more for those in The County. We realized that every photographer in the area seems to focus on family, child, maternity, weddings and other public photography options. We could not think of anyone that offered anything to the private sector (businesses) in the area. We discussed it and decided that this was something that The County needed and we could provide for them,” said Grass.
Grass said he is merely adding to, not taking away from, the services he offers.
“We will still be offering portraits, weddings and every other type of photography that we currently offer, but now we will just have more of a client base. We are already discussing with a couple of local businesses about providing headshots for their executives for advertising and even social media such as Facebook or LinkedIn. We are also going to be approaching those that produce a product in The County, whether it be manufactured, is food or beverages,” he said. Whether you have a product you’d like photographed for a company pamphlet or website, or frequent farmers’ markets and want to show off your fresh produce on Facebook, Grass can take the perfect photo to showcase any subject.
Services will still be provided at the studio, located at 25 Fort Hill St. in Fort Fairfield, as well as on site.
“We have always made sure to use studio equipment (lights, backdrops and even posing aids) that will allow us to pack up whatever we need and bring it on location with this. By having a portable studio we are able to go to a client’s location, such as an office, and provide them with service so they don’t need to disturb their workday by coming to us,” explained Grass.
Business hours are flexible, to suit client needs.
“We currently do not have a set time for hours of operation. A lot of times it is when clients are available. We have done sessions with clients in the past as early as 6 a.m. or as late as 8 p.m. It is whatever’s convenient for them,” said Grass.
