The Fort Fairfield and Limestone-MSSM softball teams meet up for the first time on the season this afternoon in Limestone, and there are plenty of points on the line as both squads enter the contest with excellent resumes.

The Tigers are in third place with their 8-1 record, while the Eagles come in as the No. 2 team in Eastern Maine Class D with an 8-0 mark.
The two teams will play again May 23 in Fort Fairfield.
Ashland, which won two of three games last week, has a 6-3 record and is currently in sixth place. Central Aroostook, with a 5-3 record, is seventh.
Washburn has cooled off after a quick start, but is still in eighth place with a 3-4 record.
The Presque Isle softball team was affected by the weather, with Saturday’s doubleheader against John Bapst being postponed until May 22.
The Wildcats played just one game last week and were able to garner the victory over Houlton. Coach Terry Cummings’ team owns a 4-3 record which places them 13th in the EM ‘B’ rankings. PI currently holds the final playoff position.
Summaries of last week’s games are as follows:
Ashland 14, Southern Aroostook 12 — The Hornets had 15 hits to hold off winless Southern Aroostook Monday in Ashland.
Gabby Cyr had four hits to lead the winning attack. Shea Craig came on in relief of Kayla Cote in the first inning and earned the pitching win, striking out nine along the way.
