Fort Fairfield upsets Wisdom

    The Fort Fairfield Tigers came up with a point-worthy victory Monday as they edged the Wisdom Pioneers in a Class D baseball showdown played in Fort Fairfield.

    FF is now in eighth place in the Eastern Maine standings. Ashland, Central Aroostook and Washburn are all currently out of the playoff picture as they are ranked 14th, 15th and 16th, respectively.
    In Class B, Presque Isle had its scheduled doubleheader against John Bapst rained out Saturday and played just once last week — a 19-1 trouncing of Houlton last Tuesday. PI played at Caribou Tuesday, taking a 3-4 record into that contest. The team is in 15th place out of 19 teams in the Heal Point rankings and must move into the top 13 to advance into the post-season.
    Summaries of games played through Monday are as follows:
    Fort Fairfield 4, Wisdom 3 — The Tigers finally handed Wisdom its first loss of the season and did it behind the pitching of Kyle Doody, who struck out 14 batters and allowed just four hits in the Monday afternoon contest played in Fort Fairfield.
    Andrew Tuck and Nate Guimond each tripled for the winners, who improved to 6-3.
    Limestone-MSSM 13, Washburn 3 — The Eagles put Monday’s home game away with a six-run outburst in the bottom of the fourth inning, giving them their seventh victory of the season against two losses.
    Michael Ericson had a pair of hits for the 1-7 Beavers.
    Southern Aroostook 26, Ashland 2 — The Warriors pounded the Hornets Monday by lashing out 24 hits. Jeremy Caron and Tyler Chasse had two hits each for Ashland, which fell to 2-8 with the loss.
    Hodgdon 16, Central Aroostook 3 — On Friday, the Hawks eased past the Panthers and stayed atop the EM Class D standings.
    Cory Richardson had two hits and drove in a run for CA. Steven Decker was the only other repeat hitter for the Panthers, who fell to 2-5.
    Ashland 11, Van Buren 10 — The Hornets made another great comeback Friday for their second win of the season. Trailing 5-0 at one point, Ashland rallied back and capped it by scoring three times in the eighth. Chasse’s two-run triple gave his team the walk-off win. Michael Cook had a two-run homer and Nick Belanger hit safely three times and drove in three runs for the winners.
    Fort Fairfield 10, Van Buren 0 — Last Wednesday, Doody tossed a five-inning shutout and had eight strikeouts in the Tigers’ victory.
    Tuck had two hits for FF, while Guimond smacked a triple.
    Washburn 9, Ashland 4 — Keagan Page had three hits and three RBIs to give the Beavers their first win of the season last Wednesday.
    Noah Farley had two hits and two RBIs and Nick Bragg homered and singled to complement Page at the plate.
    Cook singled twice and had an RBI for the Hornets.
    Limestone-MSSM 16, Ashland 0 — The Eagles blanked the Hornets last Tuesday behind a grand-slam homer off the bat of Brandon Thompson.         Cody Blair had a pair of singles for the Hornets.
    Hodgdon 25, Fort Fairfield 5 — The Hawks scored 12 times in the top of the seventh Friday in the rout of the Tigers.
    Dalton Cassidy had a triple for the Tigers.
    Presque Isle 19, Houlton 1 — Last Tuesday in Presque Isle, the Wildcats scored 18 times in the bottom of the fourth inning to pick up their third win of the season.   
    Jonah Stephenson, Scott Rhynold, Tyler Seeley, Corey Belanger, Adam Flynn and Ben Buckley were all repeat hitters for the Wildcats.
    Southern Aroostook 17, Central Aroostook 11 — The Warriors trailed by five runs entering the top of the seventh, but then put 11 runs on the board to gain the come-from-behind victory last Tuesday.
    The Panthers were led by Richardson’s three hits.
