The Fort Fairfield Tigers came up with a point-worthy victory Monday as they edged the Wisdom Pioneers in a Class D showdown played in Fort Fairfield.
FF is now in eighth place in the Eastern Maine standings. Limestone-MSSM has continued its early-season roll by winning three more games last week and are in seventh place. Washburn is in 16th place.
In Class B, Caribou is now in 13th place after splitting a doubleheader against Hermon Monday at CHS.
Summaries of games played through Monday are as follows:
Hermon 9, Caribou 7 — In the first game of a doubleheader rescheduled from Saturday, the visiting Hawks used a grand-slam home run off the bat of Quintin Wood in the fifth inning to defeat the Vikings Monday.
Jared Cox was the winning pitcher for the Hawks, while Matt Curry suffered the loss.
Matt Frost doubled and had three RBIs and Nick Whitehead doubled and knocked in a pair of runs to led Caribou offensively.
Caribou 17, Hermon 13 — In the second game, Dean Walker had four hits, while Matt Milliard and Mike Selander added three each as well as two RBIs as the Vikings were able to salvage the split.
Curry had a double and a single and also drove in two runs for the winners, who took a 5-4 record into Tuesday’s home game against Presque Isle.
Fort Fairfield 4, Wisdom 3 — The Tigers finally handed Wisdom its first loss of the season and did it behind the pitching of Kyle Doody, who struck out 14 batters and allowed just four hits in the Monday afternoon contest played in Fort Fairfield.
Andrew Tuck and Nate Guimond each tripled for the winners, who improved to 6-3.
Limestone-MSSM 13, Washburn 3 — The Eagles put Monday’s home game away with a six-run outburst in the bottom of the fourth inning, giving them their seventh victory of the season against two losses.
Limestone-MSSM unleashed a 14-hit attack, with Tristan Kirk and Bret Butler notching four each to lead the way. Nate Tucker and Sam Kupiec added two hits each. Tyler Morgan was the winning pitcher, with Kupiec coming on in the sixth to close out the victory.
Michael Ericson had a pair of hits for the 1-7 Beavers.
Fort Fairfield 10, Van Buren 0 — Last Wednesday, Doody tossed a five-inning shutout and had eight strikeouts in the Tigers’ victory.
Tuck had two hits for FF, while Guimond smacked a triple.
Washburn 9, Ashland 4 — Keagan Page had three hits and three RBIs to give the Beavers their first win of the season last Wednesday.
Noah Farley had two hits and two RBIs and Nick Bragg homered and singled to complement Page at the plate.
Cook singled twice and had an RBI for the Hornets.
Limestone-MSSM 16, Ashland 0 — The Eagles blanked the Hornets last Tuesday behind a grand-slam homer off the bat of Brandon Thompson. Chris Bernier had three hits and four RBIs and Nate Tucker added three hits, while Owen Labreck registered his first-ever varsity hit and drove in four runs. Morgan and Tucker combined on the shutout.
Cody Blair had a pair of singles for the Hornets.
Hodgdon 25, Fort Fairfield 5 — The Hawks scored 12 times in the top of the seventh Friday in the rout of the Tigers.
Dalton Cassidy had a triple for the Tigers.
Limestone-MSSM 19, Madawaska 2 — Chris Giroux had three hits and drove in three runs, while Sam Kupiec went 3 for 3 as the Eagles cruised to the win last Tuesday.
Kupiec allowed just two hits in his five innings of work to gain the pitching win.
