• D. E. Johnson, superintendent of the Caribou fish hatchery visited Madawaska, Cross and Square Lakes, Saturday, in which waters he deposited 100,000 smelt spawn.
• Miss Lula Savage, teacher of the French intermediate school, gave her pupils, numbering 38, a buckboard ride about town last Thursday.

• Fort Fairfield robbery — There is but little to aid the police in their endeavors to capture the hold-up man who robbed the American Express Co.’s office in Fort Fairfield Friday while clerks were at dinner. He succeeded with getting away with $130 before he was seen rifling the Express Company’s drawers by Robert Brennan in his store across the street.
• Russell Road news — Pupils and teachers are to have an entertainment at the High School house Tuesday night the object of which is to raise money toward paying for a projectoscope for the school. The program will consist of music, recitation and an illustrated lecture by Prin. Felch.
75 Years Ago-May 19, 1938
• Prominent bank building sold — In one of the largest real estate transactions here in recent years, J. Herbert Wakem, received for the Caribou National Bank, announced the bank building had been sold to Thurber E. Holt of Fort Fairfield for $44,000. The large two-story block, erected in 1902, was the first modern brick building in town and, besides the banking room, houses the Napoleon Chaloult barber shop, G. G. Wakem clothing, New England Telephone and Telegraph’s business office, K. T. Bisbee insurance, the office of Dr. R. W. Boone, the Aroostook Federation of Farmers, and the law offices of D. C. O’Regan, as well as Pendelton & Rogers and W. P. Hamilton.

• Loring honors Dahlgren — The “welcome” sign will be out at Loring AFB for Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 18. Special guests for Loring’s annual affair are Edward Dahlgren, Medal of Honor recipient who resides in Blaine, and Brig. Gen. Philip Tukey representing Maine Gov. John H. Reed.
• Baseball scholar — Albert C. Brewer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Brewer of Caribou has been awarded a scholarship for his third summer at Ted Williams’ baseball camp at Lakeville, Mass. A camp dispatch states, “Brewer showed such outstanding qualities of character and leadership, plus ability on the ball diamond, that he has been awarded a scholarship to return for a staff position.”

• Belanger is scholarship recipient — Caribou High School senior Heather Belanger will be the recipient of a $1,500 scholarship from the Maine Sports Hall of Fame in a ceremony to be held at the Bangor Civic Center on June 5. Belanger, who will be attending Colby College in the fall, is one of ten Maine high school seniors to receive the $1,500 award.
• City-wide yard sale — A 60-family yard sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, June 5 at the Farm Fresh Vegetable Stand one mile south of Funland in Caribou. The yard sale is sponsored by the Unitarian-Universalist Church of Caribou.
