Latest musical technology — The Edison Disc Phonograph, “The Peer of All Machines,” may be purchased for $60 to $450; no bothersome needles to handle, no broken records, no scratchy sounds, plays from five to six minutes. Is offered by The Houlton Music Store, A. E. Astle, Prop., 73 Main Street, Houlton, Maine.

Titcomb-Brown wedding — There was a quiet wedding at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Brown, Thursday afternoon, May 1, when their daughter Gladys was united in marriage to Orie W. Titcomb of Littleton. Families of the contracting parties witnessed the ceremony, which was impressively performed by Rev. Herbert Thompson, uncle of the bride.

Good Shepherd Church observes 50th — The fiftieth anniversary of the consecration of the Church of the Good Shepherd on May 13, 1888, will be observed next Sunday, May 22, at the church, the Right Rev. Benjamin Brewster of Portland being the preacher for the day.
Grocery staples — On sale this week at local grocery stores: 20 oz. A & P bread, 9 cents per loaf; Ocean Spray cranberry sauce, 2 cans, 25 cents; Red Circle coffee, 2 lbs. for 33 cents; Pioneer fig bars, 2 lbs., 25 cents; new cabbage, 4 lbs. for 13 cents and haddock, 8 cents per pound.

One-hour parking limit — One-hour parking on Houlton’s Main Street only will become effective next week according to Police Chief Arthur C. Libby. Meter heads will be painted green to indicate to motorists the new time limit. The change was made at the request of the Town Council, hoping to produce a greater turnover of cars parked in one of the primary shopping areas of town.

One of them will be crowned during ceremonies at the school gym Saturday night during the coronation ball. Greek Weekend at Ricker — Greek Weekend, Ricker’s annual spring festival sponsored by the Ricker Interfraternal Council, will get underway 7:30 p.m. Friday when Ricker Players present the one-act comedy, “A Marriage Proposal.” A combination dance-jam session featuring The Eldoradoes combo and Marsh Islanders singing group is set for 8:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon’s agenda includes baseball and tennis competitions, and a fraternity picnic.

Maher promoted — Gregory T. Maher of Smyrna has been promoted to game warden lieutenant in the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. Maher, 40, has been assigned to supervise officers in Warden Division E, headquartered in Ashland, which provides fish and wildlife enforcement for northern Maine. Maher and his wife reside on the Smyrna Center Road.
First Baptist Church celebrates 125 — Houlton’s First Baptist Church is celebrating its 125th anniversary with a series of special events. Saturday begins with a men’s breakfast, women’s coffee fellowship, and a 6 p.m. anniversary banquet at the church with special music by Chancel Choir. On Sunday, the congregation will participate in a litany of rededication with a sermon by Rev. Robert Farnsworth. Also, copies of a complete church history with interviews with William Cumming, age 96, the church’s oldest living member.
