CARIBOU — Why are pirate dances so much fun?
They just “arrrrrre.”
With 223 in attendance for this year’s pirate-themed Mother/Son Dance, the successful evening featured prizes, cake and a whole lot of movin’ and groovin’.
Pirate costumed adults and adolescents weren’t hard to find, and Caribou Parks and Recreation Department Superintendent Kathy Mazzuchelli heard lots of positive comments regarding the fun-natured event.
Mazzuchelli also gave kudos to the parents who embraced the sillyness and dressed up like pirates with their kids.
As the Mother/Son dance is one of many annual events that draw high numbers, it’s almost time for the department’s annual summer program registration.
Parents can sign their kids up on Wednesday, June 12 at the Wellness Center starting at 6 p.m. and running until 8 p.m. for residents of Caribou; non-residents can sign up their kids the following day.
For additional information, visit www.caribourec.org or call 493-4224.

For most pirates, it’s hard to sport an eyepatch while still enjoying accurate depth perception. At three years old, Carter Irving had it all figured out — maintaining optimal vision, the little tyke wore his eyepatch on his forhead. Carter is shown here with his mom, Meagan, at the Mother/Son Dance |

The most pirate-like family to ever sail the seven seas — the Riopelle family. They are, from left, Edward, Isaia, Angel (in back), Davien (in front) and Davonte Riopelle. Some families say “cheese” before a photo, but these five said “Arrrrge!” |

Aroostook Republican photo/Natalie De La Garza When you’re 30 months old, anywhere’s a good place to lay down for a quick rest — even 20 feet from the D.J. booth during the pirate-themed Mother/Son Dance at the Caribou Recreation Department on May 10. Reagan Ouellette took a little rest time after dancing up a storm with his mom, Katelin Ouellette. |
