The weather has proved favorable for the baseball season, and teams are still working at their games. Last week, a number of contests were played and the results are as follows:
The Katahdin Cougars overtook visiting Shead on Monday, 10-3, behind Billy Livezey’s bat. Livezey hit a home run, a double and a single to bring in five runs. Teammates Matt Birmingham collected a pair of doubles, while Travis Gallagher singled twice and drove in two runs.
Katahdin’s Spencer Anderson threw five-plus scoreless innings of relief to earn the win.
Will Urquhart and Drew Greenlaw each singled for Shead.
The Tigers had taken a 3-1 lead until the Cougars punched in two runs in the bottom of the third to tie the game. Katahdin produced five more runs in the sixth en route to the win.
Last Thursday in Stacyville, the Hodgdon boys held off Katahdin for an 8-7 victory.
The Hawks built an 8-2 lead in the top of the fifth, but Katahdin didn’t go quietly, as they plated five runs, coming up short in their rally.
Livezey led Katahdin with a double and single to drive in two runs, while Gallagher delivered a two-run single. Birmingham came on in relief and struck out 10.
For Hodgdon, Nick Lunn blasted a grand slam, while also earning the win from the mound, striking out seven. Sam Horton paced the offense with a pair of singles.
The Cougars were overpowered last Wednesday by the Warriors, 17-3, in Dyer Brook.
Livezey singled twice for Katahdin, while Will McGary drove in five runs for Southern Aroostook with a homer, a pair of doubles and a single. Trent Cullinan singled and doubled, while Gage LeFay and Dylan Porter each roped a double.
The Warriors took an early 7-0 lead to open the game.
Last Tuesday in Dyer Brook, the Warriors shut out Ashland, 14-0, as Porter brought in three runs on two doubles and a single. Cullinan chipped in with a triple for two RBIs and singled in the game, while Jesse Boulier collected three base hits.
The Warriors swatted the Hornets early with an 11-0 lead in the third en route to the abbreviated five-inning game.
On Monday in Fort Fairfield, the Hawks took a 25-5 win in seven innings. Hodgdon (7-1) was led by Nick Lunn who had a three-run homer and a single with an RBI. Tyler Sherman had two singles and a double. Josh Hudson had two singles, while Matt Harmon had three doubles and one single. Lunn picked up the win.
Last Tuesday in Hodgdon, the Hawks took a 4-1 lead in the third and erupted for seven more runs in the fourth to overtake Washburn, 12-2.
Hodgdon’s Drew Gough threw the complete game, recording 12 strikeouts. Backing Gough’s performance from the plate was Hudson who singled twice and tripled to knock in three runs. Sherman doubled, singled and drove in three runs. Harmon rapped three singles to bring in two runs and Tristan Larson singled and plated two runs.
Also last Tuesday in Houlton, Caribou overpowered Houlton, 17-7, behind a 16-hit attack.
Houlton was led by Dan Howe, who tripled and doubled. Kole Buzzeo and Jake Drew each had two hits in the game.
Saturday in Millinocket, the Shiretowners were defeated, 6-3.
Buzzeo doubled and singled, while Jimmy Fitzpatrick and Howe chipped in with two singles each.
