HANNA PATTERSON, NE-MissPI2013-c2-sh-19 Miss Presque Isle 2012, receives a hand from her dad, Derrick Kinney, as she begins her farewell walk during the Miss Presque Isle 2013 pageant, held April 27 at PIHS.

Master and mistress of ceremonies for the event — sponsored by the Maine Epsilon Master Sorority of Beta Sigma Phi — were Jason Parent and Pam Palm. Contestants were judged in four categories: interview, which was held earlier at the Mark & Emily Turner Memorial Library, accounted for 40 percent of contestants’ scores; physical fitness covered 15 percent; talent, 30 percent; and eveningwear accounted for 15 percent.
Miss Presque Isle 2012 Hanna Patterson joined the contestants for the opening number, dancing to the Hewie Lewis & The News song, “The Power of Love.” Judges and auditors were then introduced and included: judges Lorinda “DeeDee” Duncan, Tracy Helstrom and Stephanie Plourde; and auditors Cindy Flanagan and Benton Cash.
Kelsie Spooner, daughter of Steve and Kerry Spooner, performed a dance routine to “Tonight is the Night” by Outtasight. She was named first runner-up.
Tiffany Kinney danced to “Hall of Fame” by The Script. The daughter of Elizabeth York, Kinney was named third runner-up.

Kenedy Jarvis earned the second runner-up honor. The daughter of Robert and Tamie Jarvis, she danced to “Catch My Breath” by Kelly Clarkson.
Girdardin, in addition to winning the pageant, earned recognition for high ticket sales, with a total of 62 sold, and was also named Miss Congeniality by her peers. The daughter of Daniel and Leah Girardin, she clogged to Shania Twain’s “Man, I Feel Like a Woman.”
Providing entertainment for the evening were Little Miss Presque Isle 2013 Jorja Maynard, Junior Miss Presque Isle 2013 Mayce Kinney and Patterson in her final performance as queen. Patterson later bid farewell, accompanied by her father, Derrick Kinney.

Also taking the stage with what turned out to be a performance that brought the audience to their feet was Jonathan Guimond — who’s only been playing an instrument for about a year and a half, according to his introduction — playing his saxophone to “Killing Me Softly” by Norman Gimbel and Boots Randolph’s “Nightlife.” Upon finishing, Guimond turned to leave the stage, only to be told to turn around to see the crowd giving him a standing ovation.
With the competition over, Patterson and the contestants returned to the stage for a bit of fun, enjoying the parade of gowns. Awards were then presented, with Girardin taking top honor. She will now go on to represent the city of Presque Isle at various events, including the Memorial Day Parade on May 27. She will also compete in July at the Maine Potato Blossom Pageant.
If she should win, Spooner will assume the role as Miss Presque Isle 2013.
