CARIBOU — Caribou Fire and Ambulance Chief Scott Susi has issued a “no-burn” warning for the department’s coverage area, including Caribou, Woodland, New Sweden and Westmanland, due to the current dry conditions.

According to Susi, CFAD responded to over nine grass fires this past weekend in Caribou, Woodland and New Sweden, and had over 30 firefighters dispatched to such fires on Sunday alone.
“It was people just taking advantage of the nice weather, doing their spring cleanup, and the fires got out of control,” Susi said.
The “no-burn” warning will remain in effect until a significant enough rainfall can improve the dry conditions.
Anyone caught burning while the “no-burn” status is in effect can face a summons from the Maine Forest Service and could be subject to suppression fees incurred by the CFAD.
