MARS HILL NEWS
by Tomi Henderson
The Bridgewater Historical Association is getting ready for their first event, a play entitled “The Great Nursing Home Escape.” The wonderful folks from the Smyrna/Merrill Historical Society Play Group will be bringing the play to the hall at 485 Main Rd. in Bridgewater on Saturday, May 18, at 6 p.m. Dinner will be served during the play.
Tickets are $10 each and are available at the Bridgewater Town Office, by contacting BHA members or by calling Jann Votaw at 425-7901. It is a comedy, and we all could use a good laugh in this day and age. Bring a friend. Your support is appreciated. Keep your eyes peeled for information on future events.

KISS THE PIG
The Fort Street Elementary School PTCO held a fundraiser in March. Students were able to buy tickets to put a teacher’s name on. The top four teachers had to kiss the pig! On March 21, each of the four teachers, armed with their own tube of red lipstick, “puckered up” and kissed Wilber, the pig, held by Bill Jordan. Pictured is second-place winner Kristen Lagasse, who teaches fifth grade. Others that won included: Kasandra Grass, kindergarten, in fourth place; Sherri Averill, second grade, who finished in third place; and Amy Puleo, special education, who took first place. They raised over $320, which will be used to bring a world-renowned jump roper to the school in June who will do a clinic with the kids during the day and will do a clinic open to the public.

Rotary Club
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met on Tuesday, April 23, at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center. The speaker was Rotarian Bill Getman, who gave his classification. Bill grew up in Toledo, Ohio, and got his business degree from the University of Wisconsin.
He worked for Hormel in Boston for a couple of years before moving to Kansas, where he met his wife, Sylvia. They learned that they had both attended the same college and lived in the same area, but never met during their school years.
They moved several times — for his job or for hers — and finally moved to northern Maine, where Sylvia is CEO of The Aroostook Medical Center and Bill is the general manager of Big Rock Ski Area. They have three sons; the youngest is in college now.
