Time to tell Council what you think of PAYT
To the editor:
I would like to reach out to the residents of Presque Isle. I want them to know that now is the time to put a stop to the “pay-as-you-throw” program. It isn’t working.
It was told to us by the city manager that this was going to save our landfill. All it did was raise the prices on the tipping/tonnage fees, also cause our woods to become an illegal dumping grounds.
If you residents and business owners want to do away with the “pay-as-you-throw” program, this is what you need to do.
• Call every city councilor, all seven of them and nicely tell them to put a stop to the PAYT program.
• Send every councilor an e-mail.
• Write a letter to each councilor and drop it off at Presque Isle City Hall, it will be put in their boxes.
• You can show up at the Council meeting on Monday, May 6 at 6 p.m. at Presque Isle City Hall, Council Chambers.
The more calls, e-mails, letters and show-ups at the meetings, the more they will listen. So now is the time to speak up for the “pay-as-you-throw” or against it. It’s up to you now, Presque Isle.
