Cary marks Laboratory Professionals Week

During National Medical Laboratory Professionals Week, April 22-26, Cary Medical Center recognized its laboratory professionals.

Joan McElwain, a medical laboratory technologist for 35 years and Cary’s manager of lab services, commented, “We are very fortunate to have such a talented and experienced team of laboratory professionals. The dynamics of health care are ever changing with new technologies and procedures. Our staff continually meets new challenges and we have a true state of the art facility. Cary has a long history of providing quality medical laboratory services.”
Dr. Ninu Sharma, Cary’s laboratory director, and Dr. Michael Porter provide pathology services for Cary Medical Center. The Cary lab is accredited by the College of American Pathology, CLIA, and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. “This is a tribute to the outstanding work of our medical laboratory professionals,” Dr. Sharma stated.
The demand for medical laboratory technologists is high, both for 4-year bachelor degree and 2-year associate degree graduates, McElwain also noted.
