BLAINE – Beatrice Marie Pierce, 84, passed away Monday morning, April 15, 2013, at The Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle. Beatrice was born in Westfield on February 4, 1929, the daughter of Rowe and Esther Sylvester.
Marie grew up on a dairy farm in Westfield where her father also grew potatoes. She was salutatorian of her class and was the Aroostook Central Institute winter carnival queen. She worked as a bookkeeper for many businesses including MPG, Weaver, Greenlaw and Nutter, Vahlsing, the Town of Mars Hill, Bradbury Barrel Co., and later was the joint owner “Boss” of Big Rock Ski Area on Mars Hill Mountain.
She was a positive role model to everyone she came in contact with through her kindness and generosity and her willingness to share whatever she had. She had a passion for knitting and singing at the United Baptist Church of Mars Hill. Marie married the love of her life, Wendell Frederick Pierce, on October 17, 1947.
She is survived by her husband, Wendell of Blaine; three daughters, Sue Dearborn and her husband, Dwayne of Virginia Beach, VA, Joy Towle and her husband, Earle of Fryeburg, ME, and Gayle Pierce of Anchorage, AK; a brother, Galen Sylvester of Alabama; a sister-in-law, Ruth Sylvester of Robinson; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Gary Pierce in February 2013; an infant daughter, Mary Anna; a brother, Alden Sylvester in April 2012; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Sylvester.
All that we have said here only briefly touches on what Marie accomplished throughout her life. What as a family we feel needs to be expressed is the presence in our life that Marie provided for us all. Marie, depending upon if she was wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, or friend, you could certainly consider yourself loved and supported no matter. You were certainly never alone. It is hard to express in simple words the feelings that arise in our hearts when we think or speak of Marie, for now it will be a sense of loss and deeply felt grief. As a family and a community, in time we can and will heal and eventually celebrate her life. Little is much when God is in it.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at Duncan Funeral Home, 8 Main St,, Mars Hill, where funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, April 18, 2013, with Pastor Lawrence Beals officiating.
