Reese McPherson
Age: 7
First grade
“I’d do like a herd of horses in the foreground, and then maybe a couple moose and some deer. I’d use some white and brown and black for the horses, and some blue and white for the antlers on the other animals. If my Dad wins the lottery he’d get me a horse farm because my favorite animal is a horse.”

Second grade
“It would have a wolf on it. It would be crouching down on its front legs like it’s ready to pounce. The wolf would be white. I like their speed and how well they can protect themselves. I’ve liked wolves for quite a while … since I was like five.”

“I like winter sports so on one half I’d have a guy skiing down … coming through those poles that you have to go through. The other half would have a hockey player hitting a puck with the Black Bear symbol beside him and maybe a little crowd behind him.”

“I’d have a couple of cats on it because I really love cats. One would be a black and white cat because my cat, Leland, looks like that. I have another cat, Sammy, but Leland loves me more. I would also put a Savannah jungle cat on the license plate. I think those look cool.”

“I would have things like the Maine state bird which is the chickadee, the Maine state tree which is a pine, and the state animal which is a moose … things that respect Maine.
It would also have a sunny background.”
