LOOKING COOL
Contributed photo/Bob Tweedie
Bob Tweedie’s first car was a 1941 black deluxe Chevrolet. This photo was taken on Main Street in Mars Hill, about 1951. The Mars Hill Restaurant, Cities Service Station sign, and the old hotel are in the background. He writes “Five of my buddies are standing in front of my car, four with cigarettes and one with a cigar. I don’t remember that any of us smoked at that time, but the movie stars all smoked and it was considered the cool thing to do. I guess everybody wanted to look cool for the photo! They are, from left, Arden Kinney, who died in Presque Isle this winter; Dean Wiggins of Presque Isle; Dick Fenderson of Texas; Ethan Green, who retired from the Navy and died in the state of Washington; and Merle Antworth of Westfield. All five boys plus myself served in the military.”
