Local man dies at Windham prison

Officials at the Maine Department of Corrections confirmed April 3, a local man incarcerated at the Maine Correctional Center in Windham has died.

GARRETT BREWER, of Presque Isle, who was serving time at the Maine Correctional Center in Windham, died at the facility last week.
Details of how Garrett Brewer, 35, of Presque Isle, died have not been released.
Brewer had served approximately 66 days of a nine-month sentence for trafficking of scheduled drugs.
Brewer’s death occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, at the correctional facility. Consistent with department policy and the Attorney General’s Office protocols, the Maine State Police and the Medical Examiner were notified and both are reviewing the circumstances surrounding Brewer’s death.
The incident remains under investigation.
