Kilcollins, Cushman take Mars Hill titles

    MARS HILL — The 2013 Miss Mars Hill and Little Miss Mars Hill pageants were held on Saturday, March 30. The event began with the interviews taking place in the afternoon. The pageants began at 6 p.m., with the Greater Miss contestants doing their opening routine followed by the Little Misses’ opening routine. This year’s theme was “Welcome to Our Jungle.”

     Named Little Miss Mars Hill 2013 on Saturday, March 30, was Anna Kilcollins, at right, pictured with Delaney McKeen, who was named the first runner-up.

    Mistress of ceremony for the evening was Jenna Shaw. The evening’s competition began with Sportswear category for both the Little and Greater contestants, followed by the Talent competition. This was followed by the Little Miss Party Dress and competition and the Greater Miss Evening Gown. The contestants told of their hopes for the future.
    The Talent competition for the Little Miss contestants began with Anna Kilcollins performing a gymnastics dance to “Puttin‘ on the Ritz.” Anna was named Little Miss Mars Hill 2013, received an award for High Ticket Sales and was also named Little Miss Polite. She is the daughter of Brock and Angie Burtt and Matthew Kilcollins.
    Gracie Bailey is the daughter of Dan and Kelly White and AJ Bailey. She sang “You‘re Not Fully Dressed Without a Smile” as her talent. She was named Little Miss Courageous.
    Frankie Pierce was named Little Miss Bubbly and is the daughter of Scott and Ami Pierce. She performed a clogging routine to “Footloose.”
    Delaney McKeen performed a vocal selection entitled “Maybe” from “Annie” as her talent. She is the daughter of Wade and Jennifer McKeen. Delaney was named Little Miss Friendly and was also named the first runner-up.
    The first contestant for the Miss Greater Mars Hill 2013 title was Bridget Garrison, who danced to “Thriller” as her talent. She was named Miss Congeniality. The daughter of Steve and Kelly Garrison, Bridget’s escort for the evening was her brother, Steven Garrison.
    Kayla Cushman was named Miss Mars Hill 2013. She did a great job singing “Redeemer” as her talent. The daughter of Nolan and Karen Cushman, Kayla’s escort for the evening was Steven Decker.
    Sarah Grass was named the first runner-up. She performed “Blessings” on the piano as her talent. The daughter of Kevin and Donna Grass, Sarah was escorted by Cody Clayton. She also received the award for High Ticket Sales.
    Mackenzie Hatt sang “Home” as her talent. The daughter of George and Tammy Hatt, Mackenzie was escorted by Tyler Cadet.
    Page Fletcher did a comedy act as her talent. Named second runner-up, she is the daughter of Steven and Jennifer Fletcher. Her escort was Darren Murray.
    Entertainment was provided throughout the evening by Little Miss Mars Hill 2012 Ellen Billings, who danced to “Old Time Rock & Roll” and Miss Mars Hill 2012 Olivia Garrison, who sang “Dirt Road Prayer.”
    This was another great pageant with a wonderful group of beautiful, young ladies. Thanks go to all the folks that made the pageant possible, especially to the Greater Miss Directors Mikala Woollard and Janine Stackpole and Little Miss Directors Kassandra Dominique and Tracey Wright.
