Scholarship deadline nears

    The Northern Maine Antique Tractor Club will be offering a scholarship this spring. In order to apply, the applicant must be a member of the club, or a spouse, child, grandchild, niece or nephew of a club member.

The member must have been a club member for one year before he/she or relative can apply for the scholarship. For additional criteria and application, please go to www.nmatc.org or contact Carolyn Cheney, chair of the scholarship committee at 764-4991. Application deadline is April 30, 2013.

Locals make dean’s list

    WATERVILLE — Area students who were named to the dean’s list at Thomas College for the fall 2012 semester include: Fort Fairfield — Aleesha Campbell, majoring in accounting, with a forensic accounting concentration, and Katherine Donovan, majoring in accounting; and Presque Isle — Eric Freeman, majoring in political science/government, with a concentration in international studies.

Parmly graduates

    Army Pvt. Allyce N. Parmly has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
    During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.
    Parmly is the daughter of Rita Parmly of Fort Fairfield.
    She is a 2008 graduate of Fort Fairfield Middle High School.

Kamm, Huston make Maine Maritime Academy dean’s list

    CASTINE — Two area students were recently named to the Dean’s List at Maine Maritime Academy for outstanding academic achievement in the first semester of the 2012-13 academic year. Students named to the Dean’s List earn a grade point average of 3.3 or above on a 4.0 scale.
    Making the grade were Matthew Kamm of Caribou, a freshman marine engineering technology major, and Kyle Huston of Washburn, a sophomore majoring in international business and logisitics.

UMPI offers kayak roll clinic

    PRESQUE ISLE — The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Outing Club will hold a Kayak Roll Clinic on Friday, April 19, from 1-4 p.m. in the Gentile Hall pool. No experience is required but you should be comfortable in deep water. You must be at least 14 years old. Any participants 14-18 years old will need a parent’s signature to participate.
