PRESQUE ISLE — An appliance was the cause of a fire March 21 at a Lombard Street residence.

Firefighters with the Presque Isle Fire Department were called to the 31 Lombard Street home around 11:22 a.m. on Thursday for a report of a dryer fire in the basement.
“Upon arrival, we had heavy black smoke coming from the basement. We did a fast offensive attack, with the first arriving units quickly extinguishing the fire,” said Deputy Fire Chief Adam Rider, PIFD.
Rider said the fire was stopped in the basement.
“Fire damage was minimal. There was extensive smoke damage throughout the residence,” said Rider.
One occupant was at home at the time the fire broke out.
“There were no injuries and the occupant was out of the building when the fire department arrived,” said Rider.
The cause of the fire was traced to the dryer. The residence is owned by Ruth Fox.
