This year, the Maliseet Domestic and Sexual Violence Advocacy Center and the AMHC Sexual Assault Services are organizing Denim Day in Aroostook County, a sexual assault prevention education campaign that will be held Tuesday, April 2.
“We are asking community members, elected officials, businesses, and students to make a social statement with their fashion statement and wear jeans, or just something denim, as a visible protest against myths that surround sexual assault,” said Jane Root, director of the Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians Domestic and Sexual Violence Advocacy Center.
In addition, a Zumba party will be held on Friday, April 5, from 6-8 p.m. at the Houlton Rollerama. Registration begins at 5:45 p.m. Refreshments and gifts for everyone will be presented. The cost is $10. Alissa Black will serve as the instructor.
