The Purple Hat Society met at A Taste of China, Houlton, on Tuesday, March 12 for its March meeting. Charlotte Marley was on hand to greet everyone in their purple hats. Everyone had their hat, so there were no fines imposed. Lois Downing led the grace before the meal.
We all gave our Purple Hat name and it was fun to hear the different names, ‘’Lovey,’’ ‘’Crazy,’’ ‘’Available,’’ ‘’Calico,’’ and many more. We wore name tags and ‘’Happy Birthday’’ was sung to Mildred Gagnon. Birthday bears were given to Mildred and Evelyn Johnston.
After dinner, Charlotte gave us a lot of information about St. Patrick, his customs and facts. Many parades are observed now in honor of St. Patrick, in Boston and New York and other places. He loved children; the children dyed their hair and often wore orange or green.
