The Houlton Recreation Department will be offering the following programs during the month of April. All programs require a registration. To register, call 532-1310 by April 10.
Junior High Dance — On Friday, April 12, the Houlton rec center will host a junior high dance from 7-10 p.m. Youth in grades 7-8 only are invited to this dance. Cost for the dance is $5 per student and music will by Phoenix Crockett. All proceeds will go toward the Community Playground Project.
Field Trip Day — On Tuesday, April 16, the Houlton recreational staff will be transporting children in grades 4-6 to Caribou for a morning of games and afternoon of swimming. This activity is limited to the first 10 youth to sign up. Cost is $20 per student. A permission release form must be signed by each parent before their child can attend this event.
Red Cross Babysitters Course — On Wednesday, April 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., youth between the ages of 11-15 years can be certified in this Red Cross course. Cost for this course is $50 and this class is limited to the first 12 students to register. Participants must bring their own lunch and drink this day. Here is a great opportunity to get the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to take care of infants and children.
Vacation Fun Days — Youth can participate in vacation fun on Wednesday, April 17 and Thursday, April 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the rec center. Wednesday’s fee is $10 per child and will include games, crafts and a pizza lunch, as well as Spanish lesson fun. Thursday’s fee will be $15 per child and will include tournaments and Piñata making. Children in grades preK-6 are invited to sign up for these fun days.
Spanish Lesson — Spanish will be taught Wednesday, April 17 from 1-3 p.m. at the Houlton Recreation Center. This free activity is open to grades preK to 6. Registration is required. Paula Dahlk will be the instructor.
Piñata Making — Youth can participate in Piñata making on Thursday, April 18 from 1-3 p.m. at the rec center. This activity costs $15 per child and is open to grades preK to 6. Registration is required. Paula Dahlk will be the instructor.
Sneakin’ In Science — A fun class of Sneakin’ In Science will be on Friday, April 19 for ages 7-13 years of age. Sara McQuarrie will be the instructor. The class will run from 9:30-11 a.m. at the Houlton Rec Center. This program is limited to the 15 youth and registration is required.
