Himie Towle Memorial Winter Frolic
The annual ski event, sponsored by Cary Medical Center and the NHSC, will be held at the Nordic Heritage Center on Saturday, March 2 with registration from 9:30-11:30 a.m. The cost is $20 per family, $10 for adults, or $5 for youth and includes an event giveaway to the first 75 to register and a free lunch after.
The 7.5-kilometer freestyle main event (classic track also) starts at noon and is the final event in the Aroostook Cup Winter Series. Youth races for ages 12 and under are scheduled to take place from 11-11:45 a.m. with different distances for the various ages. Awards will be given in 22 different age categories. 3-on-3 basketball tourney
The Maine School of Science and Mathematics will hold a three-on-three basketball tournament on Saturday, March 2 from 1-8 p.m. in the Veteran’s Memorial Gymnasium located in Limestone. The public is invited to register teams for this unique tournament.
There will be two age divisions. Division I will be for high school students and Division II for adults 18 years of age or older. All participants in Division II must be out of high school. Each team roster may consist of five players maximum. There is no requirement to have a female on the teams.
The cost to participate in the tournament is $25 per team and all proceeds will benefit MSSM’s prom committee. To pre-register, email ryans@mssm.org or call 325-3610.

Caribou swimmers finish season at States
The Viking swim team, coached by Erin Tateishi-Ouellette, closed out the 2012-13 season by competing at the state meet, held at the University of Maine at Orono Feb. 18.
For the boys, Grant Bennett placed 35th in the 50 freestyle in 26.5 seconds. Austin Scott was 30th in the 100 butterfly in 1:10.56 and Darren Newbegin placed 40th in 1:18.23 and 36th in the 100 backstroke in 1:22.42.
The 400 freestyle relay team of Bennett, Scott, Tom McLean and Newbegin came in 17th in 4:29.62.
The girls’ state meet was held last Tuesday at the same venue, but Caribou did not have any qualifiers.
The top placements at the Penobscot Valley Conference meet, held a week earlier at Husson University in Bangor, were turned in by Scott, who was 11th in the 200 free in 2:23.68 and 14th in the 100 fly in 1:11.28, and Tom McLean, 12th in the 500 free in 7:26.48.
The 200 free relay team of Bennett, Scott, McLean and Newbegin was ninth in 1:55.06, while the 400 free relay team, made up of the same swimmers, was also ninth in 4:21.9.
For the girls, Rachel Wasson was 18th in the 500 free in 7:27.75, while the 200 free relay team of Brenan Page, Andromeda Grondin, Katie Pelletier and Olivia Engstrom took 13th in 2:28.7.
Indoor soccer tourney
The Caribou Parks and Recreation Department will host an indoor soccer tournament on Saturday, March 16 at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center.
This tournament is for youths in grades 9-12 and is limited to the first eight teams in each boys and girls division. The roster is limited to 10 players per team.
The registration fee is $75 per team, with pre-registration required. The deadline to enter is March 8. For additional information, contact the Caribou Parks and Recreation Department at 493-4224.
Umpiring clinic
There will be a one-day clinic for prospective softball umpires on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Presque Isle area.
