    SOUTH PORTLAND – Alice May Gauvin Cyr, 76 of South Portland, died February 18, 2013 at her residence. She was born in Caribou, a daughter of Marie Anna “Diana” Gauvin Tuttle. Alice was a 1954 graduate of Our Lady of the Mountains in Gorham, NH.
    On December 15, 1955 she married John P.R. Cyr. Together they began a family and they traveled extensively to follow John’s military career. In 1966, they moved to South Portland. Alice was a kind and generous person. She often opened her home and provided a place to live for several friends. She babysat for many children in the area along with all her own children and grandchildren.
    She enjoyed knitting and was extremely talented. She made beautiful sweaters, mittens, and afghans. She enjoyed traveling and visited many exotic locations. She is best known as a “true friend to many.”
    Alice worked as a dental assistant in Caribou and many years as a clerk for Pratt-Abbott Cleaners in So. Portland, and finished her career as a proctor for SMCC in So. Portland.
    She is survived by her husband, John of So. Portland; a daughter Wanda Pickering and husband, Joseph of So. Portland; four sons, Bruce and his wife, Ganya, of Bangkok, Thailand, Kevin and partner, Joel Waterhouse, of Dayton, and Curt and Kent, both of So. Portland; a brother, Daniel Tuttle and wife, Patricia, of Leesburg, FL; ten grandchildren, Matthew Waterhouse of FL, Emily Pickering of Portland, Austin Pickering of Enfield, CT, Eliot Pickering of So. Portland, Olivia Pickering of So. Portland, John Paul Ronald Cyr II of Bangkok, Thailand, Henry Cyr of So. Portland, Franklin Cyr of So. Portland, Nathaniel Cyr of Bangkok, Thailand, Zachary Cyr of So. Portland; sister-in-law, Roxine Miller and husband, Robert, of Bangor; brother-in-law, Robert Cyr and wife, Eleanor, of So. Portland, Roy Cyr and wife, Jessica, of Bangor; many nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
