SLIDING — A youngster comes sliding down Derby Hill in Community Park during the Moosestompers activities held last Saturday. With the falling snow and warmer weather, the day could not have been more perfect to get outside and have some fun.

Moosestompers Weekend 2013 was a wonderful success!
Friday evening found the Civic Center full of skaters while the Recreation Center hosted the ever popular G-Force Laser Tag event to an enthusiastic crowd. Saturday saw a gentle and steady snow fall that seemed to just enhance the full slate of activities that happened in Community Park.
A hearty breakfast began the day provided by the very talented crew at the Meduxnekeag Rambler Snow Club.
The first indoor Community Market and Artisan Show was held in the Recreation Center on Saturday and was deemed a success, making it a must do for next year.
The Giant Sliding Hill, though a bit sticky from the falling snow provided fun for the entire family. Trophies for various age groups testing their speed were awarded. Heywood Kennels and their marvelous dogs and sled rides had a line of folks waiting to take a turn all day long.

The Maine Winter Sports Nordic Ski Trailer was extremely popular with novices trying the sport for the first time and experienced skiers helping out! The Redy 5210 mascot was on hand to help too.
Various contests were held with children digging for moose in sawdust and searching for half dollars in the snow, all causing great excitement.
Snowmobile rides occurred all day. The day ended with a magnificent bonfire enjoyed by tired children and adults who had spent a fun-filled day outdoors, enjoying every aspect of Moosestompers. Saturday evening allowed for more skating and a bounce house on ice, culminating a day that did exactly what it was designed to do— to create winter outdoor and indoor fun.
Organizers cancelled the activities for Sunday because of the blizzard warning and for related safety reasons of planned events in the park but were pleased to announce that the Temple Theater still ran the free movie matinee on Sunday afternoon.
Moosestompers is successful because of the many volunteers, who so generously help each year. This year the Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary provided their usual delicious lunch in the Exhibit Hall, Adopt A Block furnished literally hundreds of home-made cookies, sliding games were engineered by Dave Rowe and his volunteers, North Country Cruisers provided the saw dust scramble, donations of food, coffee, hot chocolate, time and energy, snow sleds and sleighs to ride in make the weekend an event to remember for so many! It is the winter community event that encourages family, outdoor fun for all! Many thanks to all who attended and helped in any way!
