    A company with a long history of supporting outdoor recreation concludes its 100th anniversary in unique fashion, with ‘recreational vehicle’ taking on a whole new meaning as company personnel visit parts of Aroostook County in their very distinction L.L. Bean Bootmobile.
    According to the company website, the business has “always had one foot in the outdoors,” with the original L.L. Bean boot designed to help people enjoy what nature has to offer. That’s also what the larger-than-life mobile replica is designed to do.
    “From Wednesday, Feb. 20, through Saturday, Feb. 23, the L.L. Bean Bootmobile will be making tracks throughout the County, visiting outdoor events and venues. Residents and outdoor enthusiasts will have the opportunity to take photos with the 13-foot-high, larger-than-life version of the outdoor retailer’s most iconic product,” said Carolyn Beem manager, public affairs.
    In 2012, in celebration of the company’s 100th anniversary, the Bootmobile began visiting cities and parks across the country, inspiring people to get outdoors, said Beem.
    “During 2013, the journey continues as the Bootmobile delivers the ‘Discover Something’ message,” said Beem.
    The L.L. Bean Bootmobile Aroostook County visit/Crown of Maine tour will visit the following destinations on the specified dates:
• Wednesday, Feb. 20, it will be at Bigrock ski area in Mars Hill between 6:30 and 8 p.m.;
• Thursday, Feb. 21, the vehicle will start the day at 10th Mountain Center in Fort Kent, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; it will then travel to Presque Isle, where it will appear at the Nordic Heritage Center from 6:30-8:30 p.m.;
• Friday, Feb. 22, the first stop will be from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Aroostook Youth Ski Festival in Caribou; from there it will be in Stockholm from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Snowy Mountain Trails; and
• Saturday, Feb. 23, will be the Bootmobile’s final stop, where it will appear as part of Take It Outside Winter Family Fun Day at Aroostook State Park.
