The Presque Isle varsity hockey team dropped a pair of games last week and now appear locked into the No. 6 seed for the upcoming Eastern Maine Class B playoffs.

SCORING CHANCE — The Wildcats’ Alex Michaud gets into position for the pass as Orono defenseman Conor McKaig puts a body on him during last Wednesday’s game at the Forum in Presque Isle. Orono goalie Michael Brown is in the background. PI lost to the Red Riots, 5-4, in overtime.
The Wildcats played John Bapst in Bangor yesterday and will host Old Town Thursday in their regular-season finale Thursday.
The quarterfinal round of the playoffs is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 26 and Brewer appears to be the likely opponent.
At home last Wednesday, Presque Isle held leads of 3-0 and 4-2, but the visiting Red Riots of Orono came from behind for a 5-4 overtime victory.
Goals by Adam Flynn, Scott Rhynold and Alex Michaud staked PI to a three-goal lead midway through the second period, but Orono closed the gap with a pair of goals later in the second period.
After Joseph Patenaude netted one 5:08 into the third to put the Wildcats up by two, the Riots scored twice, the second with 1:26 to play in regulation, to force overtime.
Orono then tallied 5:28 into the extra session to come away with the triumph.
At Hampden Friday, PI once again started quickly with three first-period goals to move out to the early lead. Hampden, however, ended up scoring six unanswered goals to claim the 6-3 win.
Flynn, Michaud and Seeley scored for the Wildcats, who fell to 7-9 with the loss.
