Planet Head Day
The seventh annual Planet Head Day will be held at the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Wieden Hall this Saturday, Feb. 16 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. to benefit Caring Area Neighbors for Cancer Education and Recovery (C.A.N.C.E.R.). Participation can be done a couple of ways. Individuals can volunteer to have their heads shaved and can collect financial sponsorships from friends, family, coworkers, etc. All proceeds stay in the local area to help those in treatment for cancer. Participants can also attend the festivities, wear a swim cap and have their head painted to resemble a planet of their choosing. Donations will be accepted during the day.
WAGM-TV is currently raising funds to have News Director Chris Weimer’s head shaved. Their goal is $6,000 and several WAGM’s TV personalities will be out in the community collecting donations. Also attending Planet Head Day from WAGM-TV will be News Anchor Shawn Cunningham and Meteorologist Ted Shapiro. More information can be found on their Facebook page.
During the event, raffle tickets will be sold for 100 gallons of fuel oil. Tickets are $1 each, six for $5, or 12 for $10 and can be purchased from a C.A.N.C.E.R. board member or during the day. The drawing will be held at 1:30 p.m.
Pizza Hut restaurants will once again be providing free pizza. The managers from Presque Isle and Houlton will be having their heads shaved for the cause and the manager from Caribou will put on a cap to have her head painted, as well.
Clukey’s Auto Supply has donated a popcorn machine and supplies to use for the day to help raise more funds for the organization.
For more information, please contact Louise Calabrese, chair for the C.A.N.C.E.R. at 764-0766. The group’s goal is to raise $40,000 this year.
