East Grand overtakes SACS in triple OT

    The playoff picture is becoming more clear as the regular season games begin to finish for the girls’ teams.
    The preliminary games will be played on Tuesday, Feb. 12, with the Eastern Maine Classes B-C-D Tournament running Feb. 15-23 at the Bangor Auditorium. State games are scheduled for March 2, with Class C and D in Bangor.

    The East Grand girls team pulled themselves into the No. 14  spot in Class D on Monday night with a huge triple overtime win over Southern Aroostook in Dyer Brook.
    East Grand 71, Southern Aroostook 64 — The game was close throughout the regular 32 minutes, with East Grand surprising the Lady Warriors, but not themselves, taking leads at each break: 10-9; 24-20; and 32-29 before Southern Aroostook forced the first overtime.
    After the first overtime, the score was even at 52-all and after the second overtime, the game was knotted 59-all. In the third overtime, East Grand took control, outscoring Southern Aroostook 12-5 for the win.
    Shaunna Beaudoin poured in 29 points for East Grand, while Elisha Farley tossed in 18 and Sarah Stoddard netted a dozen. Other East Grand scorers included: Allie McEwen and Chelsea Winiarski with four points each; Kim Stoddard three and Adreanna Phillips one.
    Leading Southern Aroostook was Sable Altvater with 18 points. Mataya Hartin scored 13 and Jess Tucker added 12. Beth Bishop finished with nine; Desirae Dubois, five; Kennedi Smith, four; Kristen Tarr two and Cassidy Lyons one.
    The Lady Warriors’ regular season comes to a close tonight in Limestone, while East Grand travels to Acadia Christian tonight for a 4 p.m. game.
    Houlton 26, Presque Isle 71 — There was no contest last Wednesday in Presque Isle, as the Lady Shires fell prey to the Wildcats.
    Scores at the breaks: 19-4; 38-19; and 55-24.
    Tori Hanson led Houlton with 12 points and Katie Condon added seven.
    Presque Isle’s Chandler Guerrette scored her 1,000th high school point at the 2:34 mark of the first quarter, as she finished with 15 points.
    The Houlton junior varsity won in overtime, 46-41.
    Houlton 51, Caribou 53 — The Vikings held on Monday night to overtake Houlton for the win.
    Condon knocked down a game-high 22 points for the Lady Shires, while Marina Cameron fired in 20 more. Natalie Hill chipped in with nine.
    The Houlton junior varsity won, 34-25.
    The Lady Shires played Lee Academy yesterday and will close the regular season at Mattanawcook Academy on Thursday night.
    Hodgdon 37, Southern Aroostook 34 — The Hawks fell behind early last Friday night, but overcame the first-half deficit (13-11) to pull out the win.
    Lacey McQuarrie led all scorers with 14 points, while Haley Gardiner netted 13. Jennah Steamer and Mariah Wiley had six and four points, respectively.
    Dubois led Southern Aroostook throwing in 13 points, while Altvater added eight points. Smith finished with five, while Hartin and Bishop had three points apiece and Tarr two more.
    The Hawks play Katahdin tonight at 7 p.m. and end their season on Friday with a home game to GHCA.
    GHCA 45, Easton 52 — The Eagles held a 28-19 halftime lead only to watch the Bears outscore them in the second half of action, 33-17, to steal the win.
    Olivia Lord led GHCA with 18 points, with Colby Walker chipping in with 11 more. Eighth-grader Jennah Carver scored seven points, while Destinee Neureuther finished with five and eighth-grader Makayla Watson four more.
    GHCA 40, East Grand 37 — Last Friday in Danforth, Carver hit two 3-pointers (her only points of the game) to tie the contest and then to win it. East Grand led 7-6 and 22-18 before the Eagles tied the game after three, 30-all.
    Eighth-grader Rylee Warman fired in 12 points for GHCA and Sara Stoddard 11 and Beaudoin 10 for East Grand.
    Other scorers for GHCA include: Neureuther and Watson each with seven; Carver and Lord each with six; and Walker, two.
    Rounding out the scoring for East Grand, McEwen, seven; Farley, five; Winiarski and K. Stoddard two points each.
    GHCA 43, Van Buren 75 — Saturday in Van Buren, Parise Rossignol stole the stage with 38 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists.
    The Crusaders led at all breaks: 19-13; 42-24 and 64-33.
    GHCA was paced by Walker’s 17 points and 10 rebounds. Neureuther tossed in nine points.        GHCA  played the Pioneers yesterday and meet Hodgdon at 7 p.m. on Friday.
