PRESQUE ISLE — Needing only seven points to reach the 1,000-point mark, Chandler Guerrette wasted little time in doing so during last Wednesday’s home game against Houlton.

1,000-POINT SCORER — Chandler Guerrette, a senior for the Presque Isle Wildcat girls’ basketball team, was honored last Wednesday after scoring the 1,000th point of her varsity career. From left are her brother, Griffin; mother Sherri; Chandler and father, Bruce.

Guerrette’s three-point field goal at the 3:58 mark of the first quarter gave her eight points for the game and allowed her to become the sixth girl and 15th Presque Isle basketball player overall to reach the milestone.

The game was halted for a brief ceremony.

Guerrette is the first PI girl to score 1,000 points in her career since Billi Blanchard in 2003. She joins Kathy Roope, Denise Guerrette, Kim Condon, Brianna Blanchard and Billi Blanchard on the exclusive list.

“I think it is great for someone as unselfish and team-oriented as Chandler,” said her coach, Jeff Hudson. “It is even more amazing that Chan has played maybe 2-1/2 quarters in most of the games the last couple of years because of blowout wins.”

Caribou coach Ryan Deprey will have faced Guerrette six times over the past three years following Thursday’s game at Caribou and is enthralled with the star guard’s game.

“What can you say about Chandler? She’s a great player that just goes about her business night in and night out. You have to respect a player like her,” Deprey said.

“I’m happy to see she has reached her 1,000th point, but I’m also happy to see her graduate, like all Big East coaches I’m sure,” he added.

Hudson counts it a privilege to have been able to coach Guerrette, whose teams have posted a 69-2 regular season record and 75-4 overall record, including a state title, over the last four seasons.

“She is a great player, a great teammate, and someone I as the coach can count on in many, many ways,” he said. “She is a great player, but Chandler is an even better person. It will be very sad to see her and her classmates leave.”
