KINNEY, Norma, 90, PRESQUE ISLE, January 28, 2013. Arrangements are in the care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, Presque Isle.
PRESQUE ISLE – Norma Kinney, 90, died January 28, 2013, at the Presque Isle Nursing Home. She was born August 21, 1922, the daughter of L. Oscar and M. Fern Flewelling. She grew up in Easton on the family farm.
She graduated from Easton High School and Husson College in Bangor. In November, 1947, she married Vaughn Kinney also of Easton. Mrs. Kinney worked with her husband at Kinney’s Men’s Clothing store while also raising their children. She was a wonderful seamstress and did all the alterations for the store. She loved to interact with people. No one was ever a stranger. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Mrs. Kinney attended State Street Baptist Church for over 50 years. She had served as a Sunday School teacher and Pioneer Girl Leader. Of late, she was attending the Presque Isle Wesleyan Church.
She is survived by two sons, Gary and his wife, Lily of Alexandria, VA, and Paul and his wife, Laurie of Presque Isle; one daughter, Betty and her husband, Steve Playter of Cadillac, Mich.; four granddaughters, Wendy Playter of Geneva, OH, Jill and her husband, Dustin (Playter) Van Dyke of Bozeman, MT, Anna Kinney of Alexandria, VA, and Jessica and her husband, Chris LaFave of Presque Isle; two great-grandchildren, Bailey Van Dyke and Seth LaFave and one on the way. She is also survived by one brother, Floyd and his wife, Reta Flewelling of Easton; and two sisters-in-law, Vera Cullins and Olivia Kinney; many nieces and nephews; and her longtime friends, Mona Blanchard, Margaret Adams and many other wonderful friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, Vaughn; two brothers, Howard and Lawrence Flewelling; a sister, Clara Cook; sisters-in-law, Lillian Flewelling, Alice Kinney, Doris Day, Inez Miller, Kay Kinney; and brothers-in-law, Sam Cook, Ralph Kinney, Wendell Kinney, Harold Kinney, Raymond Cullins, Max Day and Bob Miller.
Friends called January 31, 2013, from 6 – 8 p.m. at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., PresqueIsle. A Funeral service was held February 1, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Presque Isle Wesleyan Church, 387 Centerline Rd., Presque Isle, with Rev. Bud Fancy and Rev. Bernard Brown officiating. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate in her honor to the Presque Isle Wesleyan Church, Guatemala Mission Trip, P.O. Box 763, Presque Isle.
