Wildcats advance to Class B state event

BANGOR — It’s on to the state Class B cheering competition for both the Presque Isle and Caribou cheering squads.

The Wildcats and Vikings earned the honor to advance to States with impressive routines in the Eastern Class B cheering event held Saturday at the Bangor Auditorium. In fact, the two squads tied for third place with identical scores.

Team scores from Saturday were: 1, Ellsworth, 142.2; 2, Hermon, 138.8; 3 (tie), Caribou and Presque Isle, both 134.3; 5, John Bapst, 127.8; 6, Old Town, 124.7; 7, Waterville, 115.5; 8, Mt Desert Island, 114.6; 9, Mt View, 108.4; 10, Washington, 100.7; 11, Nokomis, 96.6; and 12, Oceanside, 84.5.

First-year Presque Isle coach Jenna Bradstreet said she was impressed with the effort her squad put forth at Saturday’s event.

“This season, we have focused on our showmanship, strength, and confidence,” coach Bradstreet said. “Our performance on Saturday highlighted how far we have come in those areas. I couldn’t be more proud of the hard work and dedication that each athlete has put in this season. We are excited and looking forward to performing our routine one last time at the state competition.”

The top six teams advance to states. The Class B state competition will be held Saturday, Feb. 9, also at the Bangor Auditorium, starting at 10 a.m. and also includes the Class C squads.

Members of the Presque Isle squad feature Madison Bagley, Renee Browning, Emily Buckley, Madelyn Caron, Michelle Cawley, Justena Cleveland, Kelsey Corriveau, Ashley Cote, Rachel Dow, Mary Green, Kenedy Jarvis, Lindsey Lagerstrom, Cassandra Lunney, Alexandra Michaud, Katelyn Michaud, Kellsey Michaud, Lazareth Porquin, Madison Postell and Kelsie Spooner.
