The Houlton Recreation Department will be collaborating with a variety of organizations in February to provide some recreational opportunities for the Houlton area families. Below is the listing of activities and events. For more information contact the department at 532-1310.
Indoor Winter Farmer and Artisan Market
    On Saturday, Feb. 16, the Houlton Recreation Department and Vital Pathways will sponsor an Indoor Winter Farmer & Artisan Market. It will be held at the Gentle Memorial Building from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  This free admission market will feature local artisans and farmers goods for sale.

Plan now to attend and pick up those one of a kind items that you can’t find anywhere and support this new market.
Youth basketball program sign up
    The Houlton Recreation Department is now accepting registrations for the following youth basketball programs:  girls and boys grade 5-6, along with girls and boys grades 7-8.
    Registrations have been distributed throughout the local school systems or may pick up in the office at the recreation department. Deadline for registrations is Feb. 8.
February activities
    There will be two Piñata-making classes in February at the Houlton Recreation Department. The first one is Feb. 7 from 3:30-5:30 p.m., in which the children will be making Valentine piñata’s. The second one is on Feb. 21 from 1-3 p.m. and they will be making basketball piñatas.  
    Paula Dahlk is the instructor. Children between the ages of preK to grade six are invited to participate. Each class costs $20 per child. Registration is required. Call the Houlton Recreation Department at 532-1310 to register.
Phebruary Physic
    Once again the Houlton Recreation Department will be offering a Sneakn’ In Science program.  Phebruary Physic will be held on Friday, Feb. 22 from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Gentle Memorial Building.  Ages 7-13 years are invited to participate. This popular activity is limited to 15 children so be sure to register today for it!
    To register, call 532-1310 by Feb. 18. Cost is $12 per child.  If you have ever wanted to pull a tablecloth out from a table of dishes, you will actually see if this trick works, plus learn more about the different types of motion.  Sign up today with your friends.  Sara McQuarrie will be the instructor for this program.
G-Force Laser Tag
    As part of Moosestompers, the Bangor Savings Bank will be sponsoring G-Force Laser Tag at the Houlton Recreation Department on Friday, Feb. 15.  Youth ages 6 -12 may attend from 5-7 p.m. and ages 12 & older from 7-9 p.m. Admission is $10 for two hours of play. Get your friends together and join in the fun of laser tag!  No registration needed, just wear sneakers and show up!  All proceeds will go towards the Community Playground Renovation Project.
Free cross country skiing
    Parents and children are invited to visit the Maine Winter Sports Center Ski Trailer in Community Park on Saturday, Feb. 16 and Sunday. Feb.  17 from noon to 3p.m. to give cross country skiing a try. Free skis/poles/boots/will is provided by the MWSC. On Saturday, from 1-2 p.m. join 5210’s “Redy” and the Let’s Go Aroostook staff for interactive skiing fun. Feel free to bring your snowshoes if you have them, too.
