PRESQUE ISLE and CARIBOU – Hazel Rasmussen Robertson Townsend, 96, died January 24, 2013. She was born on January 30, 1916, in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Carl and Lillian (Hitchcock) Rasmussen.
Hazel graduated from New England Baptist Hospital in Boston, Mass., as a R.N. She married Bertrand N. Robertson in Nov. 1936. He passed away on June 26, 1943. She married Edward H. Townsend in May 1948, who was a successful farmer. Hazel has been a member of the Bethany Baptist Church in Presque Isle since 1972, charter member and officer of the Caribou Lioness Club, Past President Ladies Division Caribou Country Club, and Caribou Choral Society for many years. Hazel was an avid bridge player and made many new friends playing bridge.
She is survived by a niece, Shirley R. Morris of Florenceville, N.B., Canada; a step-daughter, Linda T. Soucier and her husband, Danny of Caribou; a special cousin, Carol (Hitchcock) Fitzherbert and her husband, Mel of Presque Isle; several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
She was predeceased by her two husbands; her son, Timothy Elwood Townsend in December 1989; two brothers, Lyle and Elwood Rasmussen; and a sister, Eula Scott.
