MAPLETON — The Planning Board will be seeking input on two separate matters during a public hearing scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 29, at the Town Office. Items on the agenda include the community’s building code and the creation of an ordinance to address the use of wind turbines.
“The Mapleton Planning Board will hold a public hearing on the Maine Uniform Building Code (MUBC) and the Wind Energy Facility Ordinance,” said Town Manager Jon Frederick.
Frederick said during the meeting staff will be doing a presentation on the building code and what it means, as discussing the creation of a wind energy ordinance.
“The session will be open for the public to ask questions and make comments. The meeting is strictly designed to obtain input; no decision will be made at that time,” Frederick said. “Selectmen and the Planning Board will get information and go forth from there.”
Frederick said no one currently has expressed interest in constructing wind turbines in the area.
“There’s no active interest in windmills. We’re just trying to be proactive. We’re taking steps to ensure regulations surrounding such are in place to allow the Planning Board to review and approve such, should a request be made,” said Frederick.
