PI first at Sumner
The Presque Isle varsity cheering squad, coming off its second-place performance at the Jan. 12 Penobscot Valley Conference championships, turned in a first-place effort at an invitational event held Saturday at Sumner Memorial High School in East Sullivan.
The Wildcats came out on top with 117.8 points, three ahead of runner-up Hampen Academy.
Dexter and Mount Desert Island were third and fourth, respectively. Six other teams took part in the event.
Presque Isle is now preparing for the Eastern Maine Class B Championships, which will take place Saturday at the Bangor Auditorium.
Central Aroostook, the six-time Class D state champs, will be among other Aroostook County schools participating.
