Girls basketball teams look to gather more points heading into postseason

    Just a few more games remain before teams get ready for postseason play. Each team will be making a push to gather more tournament points.
Monday, Jan. 21
    Houlton 48, Fort Kent  38 —  After leading by only four points at halftime, the Lady Shires went on a 13-4 scoring run in the third (37-24) to put distance between themselves and Fort Kent.

    Natalie Hill had 16 points for Houlton and Marina Cameron added nine. Samantha Keegan and Tori Hanson each finished with eight points and Katie Condon chipped in with seven.

    In the junior varsity game, Houlton won 50-25.
    GHCA 39, Madawaska 47 — It was a close game in Madawaska, as the Owls only held a 19-17 halftime advantage. After three, Madawaska took a 32-25 lead en route to the win.
    Colby Walker scored 19 points and Olivia Lord added six for GHCA. Mikayla Watson dropped in five points, while Caitlin Miles added three. Jennah Carver, Destinee Neureuther and Rylee Warman all scored a basket for the 1-11 Eagles.
    East Grand 16, Easton 41 — The Easton Bears jumped out 13-0 to start the game and continued building their lead en route to the win.
    Sarah Stoddard scored five points for East Grand, while Shaunna Beaudoin had four; Elisha Farley, three; Chelsea Winiarski and Allie McEwen, two each.
    Katahdin 58, CAHS 61 — The game was played close between two evenly matched teams in Stacyville.
    Paige Fletcher scored 16 points to lead the Panthers, while Kayla Cushman netted 13; Karli Levesque, 12 and Brianne York added eight.
    For Katahdin, Megan Merry scored 17 points and Morgan Livezey added 13. Delaney Fitzpatrick finished with nine points and Ashley Randall another eight.
Saturday, Jan. 19
    East Grand 50, Wisdom 43 — Shaunna Beaudoin tossed in a game-high 27 points to lead the East Grand varsity girls to victory.
    Allie McEwen netted 13 points, while Elisha Farley scored six; Kim Stoddard and Chelsea Winiarski two points each.
    East Grand jumped to a 10-0 opening lead and led at halftime, 25-12. After three, East Grand was ahead, 36-28.
Friday,  Jan.18:
    Houlton 42, Schenck 30 — The Houlton varsity girls held Schenck to two second-quarter points (15-11) and used a 18-4 scoring run (33-15) to break the game open.
    Freshmen Condon had 12 points and Hill 11 more for a combined 23 points and a perfect 9-of-9 free throw shooting. The Lady Shires shot 14-of-16 from the line.

    Hanson added 11 rebounds and Keegan had seven rebounds.
    Rounding out the scoring: Keegan, six; Hanson, five; Bre Longstaff and Cameron, each four.
    In the junior varsity game, Houlton won in overtime, 47-39.
Thursday, Jan. 17
    Southern Aroostook 58, GHCA 50 —After building a first-quarter lead of 20-13, the Lady Warriors held a slim 26-23 halftime lead against visiting GHCA. In the third, SACS opened the game up, leading 48-29 before GHCA made a comeback run in the final eight minutes.
    Sable Altvater led SACS with 15 points, while Jess Tucker added 14 more. Kennedi Smith chipped in with 10 points; Desarie Dubois, six; Kristen Tarr, five; Beth Bishop four, while Mataya Hartin grabbed 14 rebounds to go with four points.
    For GHCA, Walker had an 18-point effort, while Warman finished with 13 points. Lord added seven points; Carver, six; Neureuther four and Watson, a hoop.
    Woodland 44, East Grand 25 — The Woodland Dragons overpowered host East Grand, limiting the Lady Vikings to nine first-half points, 23-9. In the third, Woodland led 38-23.
    Beaudoin was the game-high scorer with 20 points, while McEwen finished with nine. Winiarski scored five, S. Stoddard six; Kim Stoddard and Farley each a basket.
Wednesday, Jan. 16
    Katahdin 33, Schenck 61 — The Wolverines raced by the host Katahdin girls for the win.
    Molly Cunningham scored nine points, while Morgan Livezey added seven and Megan Merry six more in the loss for Katahdin.
Tuesday, Jan. 15:
    Houlton 48, Caribou 36 — It was the freshman Condon leading the way for the Lady Shires over Caribou with 19 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Freshman teammate Hill netted 11 points, while Hanson tossed in eight points, grabbed 14 rebounds and had seven assists.
    Cameron finished with six points, while Keegan and Longstaff each had a hoop.
    The Lady Shires led at the breaks: 14-6; 26-14; and 39-28.
    In the junior varsity game, Houlton won 19-11.
    Hodgdon 27, Fort Fairfield 36 — The Hodgdon varsity girls suffered their first loss of the season in Fort Fairfield, as the Tigers led throughout the game 10-8; 21-12; and 27-18.
    Hodgdon was without senior guard Lacey McQuarrie who was out with a sprained ankle.
    In a low-scoring game, Jennah Steamer keyed Hodgdon with eight points, while Lauren Howell netted six and Mariah Wiley another five. McKensie Palmer finished with four, while Haley Gardiner and Karissa Harris both had a basket.
    Fort Fairfield won the junior varsity game, 48-12.
