PRESQUE ISLE — An ambulance was extensively damaged Jan. 14 when it was involved in a collision with a tractor-trailer truck on Main Street.

“The Presque Isle Police Department responded to the report of a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Main and State streets around 9:53 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 14. A Crown Ambulance crew was responding to a call heading north when the collision occurred,” said Sgt. Mark Barnes, PIPD.

The other vehicle involved was a tractor-trailer log truck owned by Gough’s Trucking Service of Mapleton. The crash occurred when the ambulance driver attempted to get around downtown traffic.

“The truck driver, Robert Fox, of Fort Fairfield, indicated he heard a siren but wasn’t sure which direction it was coming from. Fox was traveling north and attempted to turn down State Street to get out of the way when he was struck by the ambulance on the left side of the empty trailer,” said Barnes. “Travis Ginn was driving the ambulance and attempted to pass vehicles by going in the southbound lane and wasn’t aware the truck was going to turn.”

Christopher Bradstreet was a passenger in the ambulance. No injuries were reported. Barnes said the log truck was not damaged but the ambulance sustained heavy front-end damage and had to be towed from the scene.

Barnes said there will be no charges.

“It was just an unfortunate accident,” said Barnes.
